The Red Sox are not out of the running for arguably the biggest prize of MLB free agency.

To no surprise, however, Boston will have plenty of competition when it comes to free-agent slugger Kyle Schwarber.

USA Today’s Bob Nightengale labeled the Red Sox as one of the “serious suitors” for Schwarber. According to Nightengale, other “serious suitors” include the favored Phillies, Reds, Mets and Orioles.

The New York Post’s Jon Heyman recently mentioned the Pirates as another team who is showing interest in Schwarber.

However, an MLB general manager told Nightengale he would be “shocked” if Philadelphia didn’t retain Schwarber.
