Boston Bruins head coach Marco Sturm wasn’t pleased with how the team played on Sunday against the Ottawa Senators.

The Bruins entered the game coming off a shootout loss to the Vancouver Canucks on Sunday, and Boston had hoped to return to the win column.

However, Boston struggled out of the gates as the Bruins as Ottawa led 3-0 in the first period and cruised to a lopsided 6-2 win. It was a disappointing start as Sturm wasn’t pleased with how the Bruins came out of the gates, or played the entire game.

“It’s disappointing,” Sturm said on Sunday, as seen on NESN’s postgame coverage. “Just right from the start. They came out flying. They came out skating, had a lot of energy.

“They outworked us right away, right from the first puck drop. And then they finished us right away in the paint.”

Boston suffered its third-straight loss as the Bruins dropped a pivotal game to a division rival.

With the loss, the Bruins fell to 20-16-1 and are outside of a playoff spot. Boston defenseman Nikita Zadorov knew that was a game the Bruins had to win, especially at home.

“We need to win that game,” Zadorov added. “It’s really tight in the standings, but we know where we’re at. It’s nowhere near how we want to play as well, so we’ve got to show up (for) the big rivalry game.”
