Most 23-year-olds are near the bottom of the totem pole in their company, learning new skills and jobs after graduating college.

Not Drake Maye. He’s only in his second NFL season, but he’s already leading the New England Patriots as their best and most important player, both on the field and off.

That’s the job description of being an NFL quarterback, and Maye has handled it spectacularly. He’s helped lead the Patriots to a historic turnaround and a playoff berth this year despite being one of the youngest players on the team.

On Tuesday’s episode of “The Herd” with Colin Cowherd, Mike Vrabel praised Maye’s impressive leadership skills at such a young age and the growth he’s witnessed over the past year.

“You start to see each and every day his spirit, his passion, his energy, his leadership, how much he puts into this, the excitement that he has for everybody on the football team when they have success,” Vrabel said. “He’s into this…he’s supporting every single guy. I think his maturity has grown extremely high since I first met him in January or whenever it was.”

After flashing potential during a promising but uneven rookie year, Maye has taken his game to new heights this season, emerging as the NFL MVP frontrunner heading into the final week of the regular season. He’s also stepped up off the field, bonding with rookie Will Campbell and other newcomers.
