The New England Patriots suffered a 35-31 home loss to the Buffalo Bills on Sunday, in a game in which New England blew a 21-0 lead.
A key part of the Bills’ comeback was a controversial pass interference call, as Carlton Davis III was flagged on a pass that went incomplete to Keon Coleman. Patriots cornerback Marcus Jones also got penalized for pass interference after fighting for the ball with Bills receiver Khalil Shakir.
Despite Jones walking away with the football, it was called a catch for Buffalo, and the penalty was declined. Both controversial calls led to Bills’ touchdowns.
Following the loss, Patriots head coach Mike Vrabel was asked about the calls and didn’t want to get too much into it.
“The same guy thought it was a penalty the same way,” Vrabel said postgame on Sunday. “So, it’s a judgment call. Whether I disagree with it or not doesn’t matter. He called it. That’s how this thing goes.”

Although Vrabel wasn’t sure about the calls, he said the blame goes on not being able to make a stop in the second half.
“I mean, we weren’t able to get any stops,” Vrabel added. “When we had an opportunity to make a play, we weren’t able to make it. Penalties. And that’s how this game goes. A few small plays make the difference.
“We were very prepared for this team, we were going to need 60 minutes to beat this team. This is a good football team. We had a lot of good football in there. And we had a lot of plays that, a few plays we’d like to have back that we’ll have to learn from.”
