New England Patriots head coach Mike Vrabel announced that the club intends to add running back D’Ernest Johnson to the active roster ahead of Sunday’s matchup with the Buffalo Bills, as shared by ESPN’s Mike Reiss on Friday.

It’s looking like they won’t be left scrambling, after all…

Terrell Jennings, the club’s third-string running back, missed the week of practice after suffering a concussion during their Week 13 victory over the New York Giants — leaving the team with only two healthy options at the position: Rhamondre Stevenson and Rhamondre Stevenson.

Johnson had already been elevated to the from the practice squad on three separate occasions — making him ineligible to play unless he was promoted to the active roster. Craig Reynolds, who recently joined the organization, was placed on practice squad injured reserve on Wednesday. Jashaun Corbin, who returned from practice squad injured reserve in the same transaction, has played a grand total of 15 snaps in the NFL.

The Patriots didn’t have much of a choice.

Vrabel did not announce the ensuing roster move, though one would imagine it could be placing Jennings on injured reserve later on Friday.
