New England Patriots running back Rhamondre Stevenson’s wallet is a tad lighter these days…

The NFL fined the normally mild-mannered veteran for unnecessary roughness in last week’s loss to the Buffalo Bills. Stevenson, who had previously been fined on a couple of occasions, ended up getting hit for $12,172.

Bills linebacker Matt Milano provoked an incident on the sideline in the third quarter, swiping down on Stevenson’s arms well after the play had concluded and eventually getting the running back to retaliate with a punch to the helmet — resulting in flags on both players.

Stevenson, despite the offsetting penalties, lamented his decision during his press conference on Monday.

“That was a dumb decision by me ultimately… I was lucky it was offset. That could’ve been a big part of the game,” Stevenson said after the game, as shared by NBC Sports Boston’s Phil Perry.

It’s rare that offsetting penalties result in fines for just one side, but that was the case in this one as Milano escaped unscathed — adding some insult to the loss for those at One Patriot Place.
