Relief pitcher Matt Strahm is headed back to where his career started, according to multiple reports.

“The Kansas City Royals are acquiring reliever Matt Strahm in a trade with the Philadelphia Phillies, according to sources familiar with the deal,” MLB insider Robert Murray of FanSided wrote on X.

“The Royals are acquiring Matt Strahm from the Phillies for RHP Jonathan Bowlan, per source,” MLB.com senior national reporter and MLB Network insider Mark Feinsand added on X.

The Kansas City Royals originally selected Strahm in the 21st round of the 2012 MLB June Amateur Draft and the southpaw made his big-league debut with the club in July 2016.

Strahm spent 2016 and 2017 with the Royals and 2018 to 2021 with the San Diego Padres before signing with the Boston Red Sox in March 2022.

The 34-year-old was a key part of Boston’s bullpen during the 2022 campaign, finishing the year 4-4 with four saves, a 3.83 ERA, 1.23 WHIP and 52 strikeouts across 44 2/3 innings pitched covering 50 games.

Strahm signed with the Philadelphia Phillies in December 2022 and his career took off, making his lone All-Star team in 2024. The North Dakota native went 6-2 with a 1.87 ERA and career-best 0.75 WHIP across 66 games that season.

Strahm was 2-3 with a career-high six saves in 2025, recording a 2.74 ERA and 1.07 WHIP across 66 contests.
