The Boston Red Sox have been one of the most active teams in baseball this offseason, and they aren’t done yet. On Tuesday, ESPN’s Jeff Passan reported that the team is trading Vaughn Grissom to the Los Angeles Angels. MassLive’s Chris Cotillo added that the team is receiving outfielder Isaiah Jackson in return.

Grissom’s time with the Red Sox was underwhelming. He was acquired for Chris Sale before the 2024 season, but dealt with injuries and failed to establish himself as an everyday big leaguer. He hit .190 in 31 games in 2024 and spent all of 2025 in the minor leagues.

While infield isn’t necessarily a strength of the Red Sox, Grissom was seen as an expendable piece. Between Trevor Story, Marcelo Mayer, David Hamilton and Nick Sogard, the team has several options to play up the middle. Kristian Campbell is also a candidate to play second base, but his future appears to be in the outfield defensively.

The team has also reportedly been in contact with Bo Bichette, who would presumably play at second base. The former Toronto Blue Jay has spent most of his career at shortstop, but moved to second base in the World Series and is capable of playing the spot.

Jackson, 21, was an eighth-round pick in the 2025 MLB draft. Evaluators noted he displays good power and defensive ability in center field, but plate discipline concerns limit his offensive potential.

The deal also opens up a 40-man roster spot, which could be used for the upcoming Rule 5 draft.
