New England Patriots star wideout Stefon Diggs is facing a felony criminal charge as a result of an alleged Dec. 2 incident, Boston 25 reported Tuesday.
It’s a stunning development, and as of now, details are few. Boston 25 reported that Diggs is facing a felony strangulation or suffocation charge, as well as a misdemeanor assault and battery charge. Dec. 2 was the Tuesday after the Patriots thumped the New York Giants on Monday Night Football.
He is scheduled to be arraigned on Fri, Jan. 23, which would be just days before the AFC Championship Game should the Patriots make it that far.
Diggs’ attorney requested to keep the details sealed, according to Boston 25, and that Diggs had already tried to resolve the issue through financial means.
The Patriots told Boston 25 they will support Diggs and that he denies the allegations.

“The New England Patriots are aware of the accusations that have been made regarding Stefon Diggs,” the statement said. “Stefon has informed the organization that he categorically denies the allegations. We support Stefon. We will continue to gather information and will cooperate fully with the appropriate authorities and the NFL as necessary. Out of respect for all parties involved, and given that this is an ongoing legal matter, we will have no further comment at this time.”
The 32-year-old wideout has 82 catches for 970 yards and four touchdowns this season. He signed with the Patriots late into the free agency window as he finished rehabbing a torn ACL sustained last season with the Houston Texans.
