A lot has gone right for the New England Patriots in the 2025 campaign, which isn’t much of a surprise when taking a look at their 11-2 record. While the players and coaching staff deserve much of the praise for going out and delivering the goods, the front office deserves its fair share of praise as well.
Eliot Wolf has emerged as the leader in the Pats’ front office, but he certainly isn’t alone when it comes to the construction of the team’s roster. One guy who has played a big role in helping rebuild New England in the blink of an eye is senior personnel executive Alonzo Highsmith.
Despite being in just his second year with the Pats, Highsmith has quickly emerged as one of the most important pieces of their front office, thanks to his ability to identify and work with talented players. With New England enjoying a resurgent campaign, one journalist recently pined for Highsmith to receive consideration for future general manager openings.
“Alonzo Highsmith is one of the best talent evaluators in football. But he’s never been given a shot to be a GM. No coincidence the Patriots QUICKLY rebuilt,” Omar Kelly of the Miami Herald wrote in a post on X.
Highsmith has worked as a front office executive since 2012, when he initially broke in with the Green Bay Packers. While he was briefly the Miami Hurricanes general manager in the world of college football for the 2022 and 2023 seasons, Highsmith has never gotten that sort of opportunity in the NFL.

As more and more people begin to pay attention to Highsmith’s work with the Patriots, though, that could change in the near future. And if he were to leave the team for whatever reason, that would obviously be a big blow given the strong body of work he’s put together during his time in New England.
