The Patriots have four games left before the playoffs start. Given how well New England has performed this season, it is likely to secure a postseason spot unless an absolute disaster strikes.
Every team in the playoffs is strong, so New England will certainly have its hands full. However, there are a few teams that the Patriots should prefer to avoid.
Houston Texans
One team that New England would probably want to avoid is the Texans. If the playoffs began today, the Patriots would face Houston in the wild-card round.
The Texans boast one of the top defenses in the NFL, with Pro Football Focus ranking them as the No. 3 overall defense this season.
Houston really excels at keeping teams out of the end zone, holding the Buffalo Bills and quarterback Josh Allen to just 19 points and the Kansas City Chiefs and quarterback Patrick Mahomes to 10 points.

Even though Patriots quarterback Drake Maye is having a fantastic season, the playoffs bring a whole different challenge. If Houston can hold two of the best quarterbacks in the NFL to under 20 points, it could do the same with Maye.
Buffalo Bills
Another team the Patriots will want to avoid is the Bills. Even though New England beat Buffalo once this season and could do it again this Sunday, it’s worth noting that the Bills and Allen are capable of turning any game around at any moment.
Allen can disrupt any game with his strategic throws and powerful runs. If the Patriots face him again for the third time in just four months, they might not have anything left to surprise him with that he hasn’t already encountered this season.

Right now, the Patriots are a stronger team compared to the Bills. However, Buffalo boasts significantly more playoff experience, making the postseason for six straight years.
There’s a chance the Bills’ postseason experience could overshadow the Patriots’ playoff inexperience, leading to an early postseason exit for New England.
