According to ESPN’s Jeff Passan, the Athletics have signed shortstop Jacob Wilson to a seven-year, $70 million contract extension.
Wilson delivered a standout rookie campaign for the Athletics in 2025, establishing himself as one of the league’s premier young talents at shortstop.
In his first full MLB season, the 23-year-old posted a .311 batting average (third in the AL), with 151 hits, 13 home runs, 63 RBI, 62 runs scored, and five stolen bases across 125 games and 486 at-bats.
His slash line of .311/.355/.444 resulted in an .800 OPS and a 121 OPS+, earning him 3.0 WAR. Wilson showcased exceptional contact skills, striking out only 39 times while drawing 27 walks, and he ranked tied for second in the American League in average.

Wilson started strong, maintaining a .300+ average throughout the year, earned a starting spot in the AL All-Star Game, and finished second in Rookie of the Year voting behind teammate Nick Kurtz. Despite missing time due to a fractured forearm, his performance included consistent multi-hit games and flashes of power beyond preseason expectations.
Overall, Wilson’s career trajectory remains impressive. Drafted sixth overall by the Athletics in 2023 out of Grand Canyon University, he debuted in July 2024 and quickly transitioned to a key role. Through two seasons, he owns a .301 average with 174 hits, 13 homers, and 2.8 career WAR.
Wilson has spent the offseason training at the team’s facility to build strength for 2026 and beyond. His blend of elite bat-to-ball ability and defensive reliability positions him as a cornerstone for the franchise.
