It’s been a difficult offseason for the Cleveland Browns in terms of finding a new head coach, but it appears their search is over. According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, the Browns are hiring former Ravens offensive coordinator Todd Monken.
Monken has built an extensive coaching career across college and the NFL.
He began his coaching path as a graduate assistant at Grand Valley State and Notre Dame in the early 1990s. He then spent time at Eastern Michigan (1993–1999), including as offensive coordinator, followed by roles at Louisiana Tech and Oklahoma State, where he served as offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach in his second stint (2011–2012).
In 2013, Monken took his first head coaching job at Southern Mississippi. After inheriting a 0–12 team, he engineered a turnaround, leading the Golden Eagles to a 9–5 record and a bowl appearance in 2015, earning Conference USA Coach of the Year honors.

He transitioned to the NFL as offensive coordinator for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers (2016–2018), where the offense set franchise records in passing categories, and wide receiver Mike Evans earned multiple Pro Bowl selections. Monken returned to the Browns as offensive coordinator in 2019, overseeing a unit that featured strong rushing from Nick Chubb.
From 2020 to 2022, Monken served as offensive coordinator at Georgia under Kirby Smart, contributing to back-to-back national championships in 2021 and 2022.
He joined the Ravens as offensive coordinator in 2023. In his first two seasons, the unit excelled, with Lamar Jackson earning MVP honors in 2023 and the offense leading the league in several categories in 2024, including total yards. The 2025 season saw a dip due to injuries and adjustments, with the Ravens finishing strong in rushing but middling overall in scoring.

Now, at age 59 (turning 60 soon), Monken embarks on his first NFL head coaching role with the Browns (a full-circle return to Cleveland), poised to apply his extensive experience in scheme and quarterback development.
