The Boston Celtics have shown that they are a real contender in the Eastern Conference, but not everyone’s willing to accept it.

The Celtics recently pushed past the New York Knicks and into second position in the East standings, and this might’ve been a sour development for New York WFAN radio host Craig Carton, who found a way to diss the Celts without mentioning them during a recent show.

Carton was speaking to Knicks owner James Dolan on air when the disrespect took place. Dolan, by the way, had some unsavory comments of his own to offer, namely that the Knicks “should win the Finals,” as if there aren’t any teams in the Western Conference to be that worried about.

Give Dolan some credit, though, as he did suggest that the East has a “couple” of teams that might pose issues for the Knicks.

Carton wasn’t as prudent in his forecast for the Knicks’ postseason. “The only team I concern myself with is Detroit, to be honest with you,” Carton said. “I’m not worried about anyone else. No one else is going to beat you in a seven-game series.”

For the record, the Celtics and Knicks have split the season series thus far, with each team winning on its home floor. Their next showdown will take place on February 8 at TD Garden.
