Jaylen Brown was on an absolute heater for the Boston Celtics on Saturday night in Los Angeles, tying a career-high with 50 points against the Clippers.
But Brown wasn’t just playing on one side of the court. He committed himself to the defensive end, too, following up on a text he sent head coach Joe Mazzulla on the flight to LA in which he requested to guard Kawhi Leonard.
After the 50-point performance, Brown was asked by NBC Sports’ Abby Chin about his desire to guard Leonard and James Harden. In response, Brown reiterated a statement that he made on X a few days ago.
“I feel like I’m the best two-way player in the game,” Brown told Chin. “So I want to just take on the challenge (defensively) each and every night.”
Brown is now averaging 30.1 points per game on 51.0 percent shooting, to go along with 6.3 rebounds 5.0 assists per contest.

The Celtics now enter a four-game home stand. They face the lowly Chicago Bulls on Monday, but then their next three games are difficult: Denver Nuggets on Wednesday, followed by the Toronto Raptors and San Antonio Spurs on a Friday-Saturday back-to-back.
