Jaylen Brown cooked the Los Angeles Clippers with a 50-point showing as the Boston Celtics secured a 146-115 win to close out their four-game West Coast road trip in style. The All-Star forward went 18-of-26 from the field, including 6-of-10 from deep, as he put his December Player of the Month snub behind him.
Outside of his scoring exploits, Brown also shone on the defensive end. He undertook the difficult task of guarding Kawhi Leonard and helped the Celtics hold the two-time NBA champion forward to 35.3% shooting from the field.
During his postgame news conference, Celtics forward Jordan Walsh praised Brown’s performance.
“That was a great showing by JB,” Walsh said. “That was wild. It got to a point I was just in a corner just like this, just like ‘Ooh,’ you know? So it was a great showing. Obviously, you know, it’s on the line. Closest for closest guys on the team— see him do that— is great.”
When Brown is playing at that level, he’s borderline unstoppable on the court. Not only can he get his shot from all three levels, but he can also shut down the opposing team’s best player. It’s hard to game-plan for someone who can make that level of impact each night.

Brown is currently seventh in the NBA’s MVP ladder. His performance in Los Angeles will undoubtedly make a positive impact once the rankings are reviewed in the coming days. His season high is fifth.
Both Brown and the Celtics will have the opportunity to continue their impressive season when they face the Chicago Bulls at TD Garden on Monday, Jan. 5.
