New England Patriots quarterback Drake Maye credited his team’s defense for the win over the Denver Broncos to advance to Super Bowl LX on Sunday.

The Patriots went on the road to beat the Broncos 10-7 in the AFC Championship Game, as New England’s defense was stellar once again. Following the win, Maye credited the Patriots’ defense for the victory.

“We were running the football and protecting the football,” Maye said postgame on Sunday. “Once we got those three points out of halftime, that was a huge drive. Just protect the football and let our defense keep doing their thing.

“It was tough elements for our offense, but (both) defenses were playing great. Really just give ourselves a chance to not lose the game and turn the ball over or do something where we put our defense in a bad spot. Our defense showed up every time, time and time again.”

Maye finished the game going 10-of-21 for 86 yards, while rushing for 65 yards and a touchdown. The Patriots quarterback did a good job of protecting the football and making plays when it mattered.

“We didn’t play our best ball in the first half, and second half, (we) came out and just battled in the elements, snow and the elements,” Maye said. “It was a gritty win, and our defense, they stepped up. It was fun to watch.”

The focus for the Patriots now turns to the Seattle Seahawks in two weeks for Super Bowl LX. If New England is going to win, Patriots head coach Mike Vrabel knows the team has to be better than it was against the Broncos.
