Bruins royalty will be honored on Thursday night, as Zdeno Chara will see his number retired at the TD Garden before Boston’s game against the Kraken.

A few former Bruins are expected to attend the event, including Patrice Bergeron, Ray Bourque, Andrew Ference, Dennis Seidenberg and Tim Thomas.

Chara began his NHL career in 1997 with the Islanders before being traded to the Senators in 2001. However, he didn’t reach legendary status until he signed with the Bruins in 2006.

“Big Z” served as the team’s captain throughout his entire tenure with Boston, won the Norris Trophy in 2009 and helped the Bruins capture the Stanley Cup in 2011. Chara retired in 2022 and entered the Hall of Fame in 2025.

Now, Chara is ready to be immortalized alongside other franchise greats like Bobby Orr and Phil Esposito.
