The Boston Red Sox lost Alex Bregman to the Chicago Cubs this offseason, and could be looking for a bat to replace him.
Bregman was a key player for the Red Sox offense, and after adding Willson Contreras, Craig Breslow was hoping to sign Bregman as a second impact bat this winter. However, with Bregman in Chicago, the Red Sox’s need for another impactful hitter remains.
The Red Sox have reportedly been looking into Isaac Paredes of the Houston Astros. However, The Athletic’s Chandler Rome noted that the two sides are not close to a deal right now.
“The Boston Red Sox are among multiple teams interested in Paredes, according to multiple league sources,” Rome wrote on Saturday. “No deal is believed to be close — and Brown did not address Paredes’ availability on Saturday — but Brown’s desire for balance only amplifies a potential fit between Boston and Houston.”
Paredes was an All-Star last season, slashing .254/.352/.458 with 20 home runs in 102 games. Last season marked his second All-Star selection. He is under club control through 2027 and could be a direct replacement for Bregman at third base.

He missed a chunk of the season after going on the injured list, but has been playing well in winter ball. In nine games for the Naranjeros de Hermosillo, he has a .833 OPS.
He has 70 home runs in the last three seasons and could be a great addition to the Red Sox offense. He could slot in at third base and allow Marcelo Mayer to play second base. The Red Sox need to improve on offense, and Paredes would surely help.
