Free agent star Bo Bichette is one of the best bats remaining on the market. January’s MLB news will be defined by Bichette’s landing spot, as well as that of Alex Bregman, Cody Bellinger, and Kyle Tucker, as far as bats are concerned.

Bichette was once upon a time presumed to be returning to the Toronto Blue Jays, but with each day that passes, that seems less likely. Some fans and analysts feel that Toronto going out and signing Kazuma Okamoto was a sign that they plan on moving on from Bichette. Others feel that Toronto may very well add Bichette to its list of impressive additions this offseason. If that’s the case, the Blue Jays have some competition in the Bichette sweepstakes.

The Boston Red Sox and New York Yankees are two clubs in the American League that have been linked to Bichette recently, but Jon Heyman of the New York Post also reminded people this weekend that Bo has suitors in the National League, including a team that hasn’t been talked about a ton in connection to him: the Philadelphia Phillies.

“The Phillies are among a number of big-market teams to have interest in Bo Bichette, an ultra young (27) free agent,” Heyman posted to X on January 3. “Yanks, Cubs, Dodgers, Red Sox and incumbent Jays, too. Bichette is the only player to hit .300 vs. fastballs, breaking balls and also changeups/splits.”

In 2025, Bichette rebounded from a challenging 2024 marred by injuries, hitting .311 with 18 home runs, 94 RBIs, and a .840 OPS in 139 games.

He ranked second in the AL in average and delivered 44 doubles, his highest total yet, while contributing to Toronto’s AL East title and playoff run. A late-season knee sprain sidelined him, but he returned for the World Series, batting .348 with a homer and six RBIs in seven games against the Dodgers.
