Although the New England Patriots season isn’t over yet, with the Super Bowl set for Feb. 8, it’s never too early to start considering which players might be on the move this offseason.

Bleacher Report’s Alex Ballentine identified potential NFL cut candidates for this offseason, and he included New England’s running back Antonio Gibson on the list.

“Things already weren’t looking good for Gibson when the Patriots drafted TreVeyon Henderson last spring. Then Gibson only played five games this season due to a knee injury,” Ballentine wrote on Thursday.

“The reality is that Gibson is getting paid too much to be a clear No. 3 back behind Henderson and Stevenson. The Pats can find a third back and return man for much cheaper through the draft.”

New England signed Gibson to a three-year, $11.25 million contract in March of 2024.

Gibson suffered a season-ending torn ACL against the Buffalo Bills in Week 5. Since he was unable to play for most of the season, Henderson stepped up and gained valuable experience. Henderson has likely impressed the coaching staff enough to secure at least the No. 2 running back spot for next season, which could lead to Gibson being moved.
