New England Patriots quarterback Drake Maye was recognized as the PFWA’s Most Improved Player of the Year on Friday.

Duh.

Maye, 23, was the obvious choice for the award as he led the NFL in completion percentage (72.0), yards per attempt (8.9) and passer rating (113.5) all while having his club on the doorstep of an appearance in Super Bowl LX.

Maye’s improvement wasn’t stark enough to earn PWFA’s MVP, as that was given to Los Angeles Rams quarterback Matthew Stafford.

Maye is the sixth quarterback to win the award since 2020, joining the likes of Ryan Tannehill (Tennessee Titans; 2020), Josh Allen (Buffalo Bills; 2021), Geno Smith (Seattle Seahawks; 2023), Baker Mayfield (Tampa Bay Buccaneers; 2024) and Sam Darnold (Minnesota Vikings; 2025).

It’s just time to see if he can take home the big one; AP NFL MVP.
