The New England Patriots will have one more game to play this season after defeating the Denver Broncos in the AFC Championship.

One of the reasons New England is making its way to the Super Bowl is the impressive performance of second-year quarterback Drake Maye. Maye isn’t the only second-year quarterback to guide the Patriots to the Super Bowl, a feat that Tom Brady accomplished during the 2001-02 season.

The Patriots are just the second franchise, alongside the San Francisco 49ers, to have multiple first- or second-year quarterbacks lead their team to the Super Bowl, according to NFL Plus.

San Francisco witnessed Colin Kaepernick lead the 49ers to the Super Bowl in the 2012-13 season, and more recently, Brock Purdy did the same in the 2023-24 season, both in their second years.

However, the 49ers fell short in both of their Super Bowl appearances with Kaepernick and Purdy, while the Patriots won with Brady leading the charge against the St. Louis Rams.

That could be a good omen for Maye, suggesting he could become the second quarterback in franchise history to win his first Super Bowl in his second season.
