The Philadelphia Phillies have reportedly reached a contract agreement with All-Star catcher J.T. Realmuto, per USA Today’s MLB insider Bob Nightengale.
The Boston Red Sox were loosely linked to Realmuto back in November.
The Phillies are clearly seeking to bounce back from losing Bo Bichette today to the New York Mets. Nightengale reported that Philly offered Bichette a seven-year, $200 million contract last night and assumed that the deal was pretty much done.
Realmuto’s 2025 season with the Phillies marked a step back offensively, as he batted .257 with 12 home runs, 52 RBIs, and a .700 OPS over 134 games. Despite a slow start, he surged from mid-June to late August, hitting .313 with six homers in that stretch.

Defensively, his framing dipped below average, contributing to a 2.1 fWAR. The Phillies finished 96-66 to claim the NL East, and Realmuto delivered in the postseason with a .353 average and one homer.
Over his 12-year career, Realmuto has established himself as one of baseball’s premier catchers, compiling a .270 average, 180 home runs, 677 RBIs, and 104 stolen bases across stints with the Marlins (2014-18) and Phillies (2019-25).
Drafted as a shortstop in 2010, he transitioned to catcher and has earned three All-Star nods, multiple Gold Gloves, and Silver Sluggers. His durability and speed set him apart, with a career 38.7 WAR.
