A lot of Boston Red Sox fans are hoping the team will land Bo Bichette after losing Alex Bregman in free agency.

Bichette has plenty of suitors, though, and a link with the Philadelphia Phillies is particularly strong. Philly recently hired ex-Blue Jays bench coach Don Mattingly, who developed a close relationship with Bichette in Toronto.

Mattingly worked with Bichette “every day” in Toronto, according to MLB Network’s Harold Reynolds, who suggested that Philly has an advantage in the Bichette sweepstakes.

New York Post‘s Jon Heyman provided some updated Bichette intel on Tuesday, listing the Phillies, Red Sox, New York Yankees, Los Angeles Dodgers, and incumbent Blue Jays as the teams still in on Bo. Heyman also said that Bichette’s meeting with the Phillies on Monday “is said to have gone very well.”

Bichette delivered a strong bounce-back performance for the Toronto Blue Jays in 2025, reclaiming his form after a challenging previous year. In 139 regular-season games, the shortstop batted .311 with an .840 OPS, collecting 181 hits, 18 home runs, and 94 RBIs. His consistent contact and power contributed to Toronto’s success, including a run to the World Series against the Los Angeles Dodgers.

Bo suffered a left knee injury (posterior cruciate ligament sprain) on September 6, which sidelined him for the remainder of the regular season and the early playoffs. He returned for the World Series, shifting to second base in his first MLB appearances at the position. In Game 7, he hit a three-run homer off Shohei Ohtani.

Following the season, Bichette declined Toronto’s $22.025 million qualifying offer in late 2025 and entered free agency.
