The Boston Red Sox have been one of the most aggressive teams this offseason, and they continue to pursue another bat for their lineup.

Craig Breslow has already noted that the Red Sox want to add another impact bat to their lineup. He called it a priority, and Alex Bregman is reportedly their top choice to fill that need.

According to ESPN’s Buster Olney, during an appearance on “First Up with Korolnek & Colaiacovo” on Friday, the Red Sox have made an “aggressive offer” to Bregman.

“I think that Alex Bregman is going to go back to the Red Sox,” Olney said. “From what I understand, the Red Sox have made an aggressive offer on him. They valued him last summer.”

Bregman was named an All-Star for the third time in his career last season. After posting a .795 OPS in the last five seasons, he had an .821 OPS last season. He played sound defense at third base and was a great leader for the Red Sox as well.

The Red Sox have other options as well, notably Bo Bichette, but what Bregman brings to the clubhouse may outweigh even his stellar play. The young players on the team raved about his impact, and even when he was injured, he was making his impact felt as a leader.

Additionally, Breslow has noted how much the Red Sox admire Bregman and what he did in his first year with their team.

“We had the chance to see up close what Alex can bring to a clubhouse, and what he can bring to the field,” Craig Breslow said on MLB Network on Dec. 10. “He emerged as a leader, especially among those young players. His impact on our team was huge. We obviously remain engaged in conversations, but how things will go, we’re not sure.”

Bregman is a Gold Glover, Silver Slugger and two-time World Series MVP. He could play a key role in helping Boston make a deep run next season and beyond.
