The Boston Red Sox are working on finding a way to make their first major-league free agent signing this offseason. One player they have continually been linked to is shortstop Bo Bichette, but it sounds like his market is beginning to heat up.

Bichette enjoyed a strong bounce-back campaign in 2025 with the Toronto Blue Jays, helping them find their way to the World Series. In 139 games, Bichette hit .311 with 18 home runs and 94 RBIs, positioning him to earn a massive new deal in free agency.

While guys like Kyle Schwarber and Pete Alonso quickly flew off the free agent market, Bichette’s market has taken a bit longer to develop. It appears that is happening in real time, though, as the Philadelphia Phillies are reportedly the latest team to join the fray of teams pursuing the two-time All-Star.

“As the Phillies reach a possible inflection point in their offseason, they have scheduled a meeting with free-agent infielder Bo Bichette and done extensive work on the various roster ripple effects of signing him, multiple league sources told The Athletic,” Matt Gelb and Ken Rosenthal reported.

How much interest the Sox truly have in Bichette is unknown. Rumors emerged earlier this offseason suggesting that they would not be pursuing him, but they have continued to be linked to him. At this stage of the game, Alex Bregman feels like a more logical target in free agency, but it’s worth noting that things change quickly in free agency.

With more teams continuing to flock to Bichette, though, that could further incentivize the Sox to up their offer to Bregman. Or, it could convince the front office to make a harder push for Bichette. Free agency is heating up, and Boston’s front office needs to move quickly to ensure it doesn’t get left in the dust.
