The Houston Texans seem to be adding a former New England Patriots player to their coaching staff.
KPRC 2 Houston’s Aaron Wilson reported on Friday that the Texans are bringing James Ferentz on board to join their coaching staff. Wilson later reported that Ferentz is expected to work with the tight ends.
Ferentz played center in the NFL for eight seasons, spending his time with New England from 2018 to 2023. During his tenure, he appeared in 40 games and started in 10 of those.
After Ferentz retired from playing in 2023, the Giants brought him on as an assistant offensive line coach for two seasons. Following New York’s decision to fire head coach Brian Daboll mid-season and hire John Harbaugh as his replacement, Ferentz found himself free to explore other opportunities.
Ferentz played under his father, Kirk at Iowa, where he’s been coaching the Hawkeyes since 1999.

This isn’t Ferentz’s first stint with the Texans. Houston signed him as an undrafted free agent in 2014, where he went through two training camps and spent a season on the practice squad.
