Tom Brady and Bill Belichick are recognized as one of the best quarterback/head coach duos in NFL history. Brady recently shared his experience of playing under Belichick and what he was like as a coach.
“He’s the best coach to ever coach in the NFL,” Brady said Tuesday during the “Spittin’ Chiclets” podcast. “One of the great motivators. So many things are uncanny about the coaching style that he had so high expectations for us, and he never let off the gas.”
Brady played under Belichick for 20 seasons, reaching the Super Bowl nine times and winning six championships. While Brady and Belichick may have had their share of arguments, they were ultimately stronger together.
Belichick had a knack for pushing the right buttons to motivate Brady, and the quarterback consistently performed his best when he had a chip on his shoulder. As he got older, he thrived on proving the doubters wrong, especially when many people claimed he was too old to continue competing at an elite level.
In 2020, Brady left Belichick to join the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, where he went on to win a Super Bowl. Meanwhile, Belichick struggled without Brady, finishing with a disappointing 29-38 record and making the playoffs only once in 2021. As a result, the Patriots decided to part ways with him at the conclusion of the 2023 season.
