The Boston Celtics may find themselves in a bit of a skid currently, but they are still one of the top teams in the Eastern Conference. As a result, the expectation is that they will be operating as buyers at the upcoming trade deadline.

Among the Celtics’ needs is another big man to help fill out their rotation alongside Neemias Queta and Luka Garza. On Tuesday, a top-tier target suddenly emerged at this spot, as reports emerged indicating that the Dallas Mavericks are open to trading Anthony Davis.

With Davis appearing set to undergo surgery on a left-hand injury that will hold him out for the majority of the 2025-26 campaign, the Mavs could be set to move on from him. However, it didn’t take long for Davis to respond to all the rumors that are suddenly swirling around him.

“Yall better stop listening to all these lies on these apps!” Davis said in a post on X.

Davis’ cryptic remark is certainly open-ended for a couple of reasons. Two key pieces (his injury status and the Mavericks’ desire to trade him) have emerged recently, so it’s unclear which rumor he’s discussing. As a result, there’s a lot of confusion surrounding Davis’ injury status and his future with Dallas.

Regardless, Boston will surely be keeping tabs on Davis moving forward now, as the team has been interested in him for years. The steep price to acquire Davis could prevent the Celtics from dealing for him, but his status will surely be worth keeping tabs on as the trade deadline draws near.
