San Francisco 49ers defensive lineman Keion White suffered a gunshot wound in the ankle on Monday morning.

The Niners announced late Monday night that the former New England Patriots defender underwent surgery and is without a timetable for return.

“From the 49ers: ‘Keion White was a victim of a shooting and sustained a bullet wound to his ankle this morning in San Francisco. He is currently undergoing surgery at a local hospital. We will provide further updates when appropriate,'” Matt Barrows of The Athletic posted on X.

“Keion White underwent a successful surgery, the 49ers report,” NBC Sports Bay Area’s Matt Maiocco added on X. “49ers DL Keion White sustained a gunshot to the ankle early Monday morning, and he is now out of surgery. The 49ers are not putting a timetable on his recovery.”

White just finished his third season since New England selected him in the second round of the 2023 NFL Draft.

The 27-year-old led the Patriots in quarterback hits (16) and tied for first in sacks (5.0) during the 2024 campaign before being traded to San Francisco in October.

White registered career lows in tackles (18) and games played (14) and started (three) in the 2025 season between the two teams, though he added six quarterback hits and 1.5 sacks.
