Quarterback Mac Jones’ San Francisco 49ers were eliminated in the NFC Divisional Round of the playoffs in January, but the upcoming Super Bowl will be taking place in nearby Santa Clara.

Jones appeared on Super Bowl radio row in an interview with NFL Network’s “The Insiders” on Wednesday and discussed everything from his time with the New England Patriots to his resurgent 2025 campaign as San Francisco’s backup.

The 27-year-old played in 11 games and made eight starts in place of an injured Brock Purdy this season, recording a career-high 69.6% completion percentage to go with 2,151 passing yards, 13 touchdowns and six interceptions.

Jones said that he’s ready to be a starting signal-caller in the NFL again.

“I’ve proven I can be a starter,” he said. “I’ve proven I can be a starter in multiple different spots. I have 50-plus starts or whatever. I know how to do it. But it’s also a business. I understand both sides of it.”

New England selected Jones with the 15th overall pick in the 2021 NFL Draft and he helped lead the Patriots to the playoffs that season while earning the lone Pro Bowl honor of his career.

After losing his starting gig during the 2023 campaign, the Alabama product was traded to the Jacksonville Jaguars in March 2024 for a sixth-round pick (which turned into quarterback Joe Milton). Jones finished the 2024 season with 1,672 passing yards, eight touchdowns and eight interceptions across 10 games, seven of which he started in place of an injured Trevor Lawrence.

“It’s definitely motivating for me,” Jones said. “I feel I can do that. I have my swag back, and I feel like that’s important for me. I can go out there and win games for whoever.”
