New England Patriots fans can exhale after Drake Maye continued to dispel any fears of a shoulder injury affecting his Super Bowl LX availability.
Concerns about Maye’s shoulder intensified after he was a limited participant last week, and an illness also contributed to the quarterback missing Friday’s practice. However, the 23-year-old touted a clean bill of health after returning to the field in full capacity on Wednesday.
Maye told reporters before Thursday’s practice that he’s “really excited” to play in Sunday’s Super Bowl against the Seattle Seahawks. He again downplayed any concerns about his shoulder entering the championship clash.
“A chance to play in this game is a dream come true and what you work for all year long,” Maye said. “I’m not trying to lie to you guys. I said I’m feeling great. I’m feeling great, and looking forward to getting out there today. Another day of practice, got one tomorrow and feeling pretty good.”
Barring a setback, Maye appears to be a full-go for Sunday. He’ll look to become the youngest quarterback to win a Super Bowl when opposing Seattle’s top-ranked scoring defense.

Maye and the Patriots have already defeated three top-five defenses in terms of yards allowed. While he hasn’t played to his MVP standards, the second-year breakout star fixed his turnover woes in an AFC Championship Game win over the Denver Broncos.
He’s also taken some punishment this postseason, getting sacked five times in each victory. Maye can use better protection when opposing a Seahawks unit that compiled 47 sacks during the regular season.
Sunday’s Super Bowl is scheduled to start at 6:30 pm. ET on NBC.
