This Super Bowl run felt unlike any other this century for the New England Patriots.
September used to come with Herculean expectations in Foxboro. But lately, fans have just been begging ownership for a watchable product.
With the hiring of first-year head coach Mike Vrabel, those expectations once again returned, but with the caveat of “one day” optimistically attached to the end.
Well, one day came a lot quicker than a majority of fans expected. General manager Eliot Wolf was asked on NFL Network’s “The Insiders” if even he could have expected a run like this in Vrabel’s first year. He said that he, like many of us, is just doing his best to enjoy the ride.
“I mean, to be in the Super Bowl? Maybe not,” Wolf said. “That’s not how we look at it. We look at the next game as the most important game… We just kept winning.”

New England bounced back in a big way after three straight losing seasons and back-to-back 4-13 records.
“Really starting with the Buffalo game in October,” Wolf said. “Some of those plays I was talking about — Drake and Borregales hitting the game winner, and some of those opportunistic defensive plays.
“It’s been really awesome for these guys to come together and try to build this thing.”

It really does feel like this Patriots team is playing with house money on Sunday.
That’s not to say the outcome does not matter, but arriving on the world’s biggest stage in the first year of a head coach’s tenure with a second-year quarterback and an organization rooted in success is plenty sufficient to appease even the most ambitious fan.
