The New England Patriots will take the field for Super Bowl LX in just a couple of hours. And yet, in the buildup to this game, folks just can’t stop talking about Bill Belichick‘s Hall of Fame, with one of his former players, Rodney Harrison, taking aim at one of the voters, former Indianapolis Colts head coach Tony Dungy.

Reports emerged two weeks ago indicating that Belichick did not receive the necessary number of votes to qualify for the Hall of Fame. While it is only his first ballot, Belichick is widely believed to be the best head coach in NFL history.

Dungy is a member of the voting committee, and he has refused to publicly declare whether or not he voted for Belichick. Harrison seems to believe he did not vote for New England’s longtime coach because he aired out Dungy on live television ahead of the Super Bowl.

“Any list that doesn’t include Bill Belichick at the top is absolutely wrong,” Harrison said to Dungy on NBC. “There is nobody more deserving to be in that Hall of Fame than Coach Belichick … That’s the disappointing part of it, Coach, and you guys got it wrong.”

There’s really no justification for Belichick not getting into the Hall of Fame. Some folks have complained about the voting process, while other reports have indicated that guys like Dungy and former NFL owner Bill Polian came out and said they didn’t believe Belichick should be a first-ballot Hall of Famer because of the cheating scandals he was involved in.

No matter which way you slice it, though, it’s clear that Belichick belongs in the Hall of Fame. He will certainly get in eventually, but Harrison hit the nail on the head with his pointed criticism towards Dungy when discussing the subject.
