New England Patriots quarterback Drake Maye has dominated the headlines, but his teammates have some notable injuries of their own to keep an eye on ahead of Super Bowl LX on Sunday.
Robert Spillane, anyone?
Spillane, who exited early in the club’s AFC Championship over the Denver Broncos, did not practice all last week but provided something of a positive injury update during Super Bowl Opening Night on Monday.
“I’m doing what I need to do,” Spillane said. “We have a plan scheduled for me to return to play. I’m just trying to do everything I can to make sure we’re right on it… We’re on the right track. We’re where we need to be and the goal is to obviously go out there and be dominant on Sunday.”
Spillane admitted that he “ran around” during practice at Stanford on Monday, though he didn’t practice in an official capacity and would have been listed as a non-participant had there been an injury report. The Patriots are being careful with the veteran, who missed four games during the regular season due to similar injuries.

New England still has three practices until taking on the Seattle Seahawks in Super Bowl LX, so there’s time for injuries to heal and for the plan to be formulated before kickoff at 6:30 p.m. ET on Sunday.
“I think we’re in such a great place where it’s confidence and light airiness,” Spillane said. “We know we’re going to be right where we need to be.”
