It’s hard not to think of the Boston Red Sox when you look at Bleacher Report’s prediction for the St. Louis Cardinals’ Opening Day rotation.

The prediction, penned by Joel Reuter, has former Red Sox pitchers Dustin May and Richard Fitts factoring into St. Louis’ top five, with May in the No. 2 spot (!) and Fitts rounding out the rotation at the back end.

Reuter’s entire prediction for the Cardinals, in order, was Matthew Liberatore, May, Michael McGreevy, Andre Pallante, and Fitts. Reuter also noted that former Red Sox right-hander Hunter Dobbins will compete for a spot.

“While the top three spots on the Cardinals staff appear to be locked, the final two are wide open heading into camp, with newcomers Richard Fitts and Hunter Dobbins set to compete with incumbent starter Andre Pallante and potential reliever-turned-starter Kyle Leahy,” Reuter wrote. “This season will be all about assessing roster pieces for long-term potential, so expect top prospect Quinn Mathews to get a look by midseason.”
