Just hours after a 14-4 loss to the New York Yankees on Saturday, the Boston Red Sox completed a trade with the Detroit Tigers.

Boston acquired right-handed pitcher Trey Wingenter while sending right-hander CJ Weins back to Detroit, per a team release.

Weins was in the Red Sox system for just under a year. The 2023 sixth-round draft pick reached Low-A Salem and faced 29 batters in 19 appearances in 2024. He played his college ball at South Carolina and Western Kentucky.

As for Wingenter, the 30-year-old made a return to MLB with the Tigers after a four-year hiatus from the big leagues. The righty recorded a 3.31 ERA in 26 appearances this season with Triple-A Toledo.
