Top Boston Red Sox prospects Marcelo Mayer and Kyle Teel showed their talents Saturday at the MLB All-Star Futures Games.
The final piece of the Red Sox “Big Three” prospect trio made sure to leave his impact on the festivities, too.
While the highly touted Roman Anthony didn’t compete alongside Mayer and Teel in the marquee exhibition contest, the 20-year-old outfielder did participate in the inaugural Futures Skills Showcase at Globe Life Field in Arlington, Texas.
Anthony went up against seven other prospects in MLB Pipeline’s Top 100 and walked away with the trophy once everything was settled.

The event consisted of three challenges — Hit it Here, Call Your Shot and Swing For the Fences — and Anthony got off to a rough start. He didn’t score any points in the first round as he struggled with bunting and was in sixth place once the Home Run Derby portion of the competition began. But Anthony displayed his left-handed power stroke and belted six homers, which was the most of any player, to earn the victory.
“Going into the last round, I had nothing to lose,” Anthony told reporters, per MLB.com’s Christina De Nicola. “I said, ‘Screw it,’ went down and took some swings and said, ‘I’m going to go up there and get my swing off.’ It went pretty well.”
Anthony, who was a 2022 second-round pick by the Red Sox, is ranked as Boston’s second-best prospect by MLB Pipeline, only behind Mayer and a spot ahead of Teel.

Like his Double-A Portland teammates in Mayer and Teel, Anthony may be on his way to earning a promotion to Triple-A Worcester at some point in the second half of the season. Anthony batted .241 with 10 home runs and 27 RBIs to go along with a .349 on-base percentage in 66 games this season with Portland.
