It was a feel-good moment for Red Sox fans to see a franchise legend’s son drafted by the club, and it was even more emotional after seeing another child of a legendary Boston great acknowledge the milestone.

The Red Sox on Tuesday drafted David Ortiz’s son in the 19th round of the 2024 MLB Draft. Ortiz had an emotional reaction to the moment. It was a cool sight for fans to see, and emotions for supporters were added on when they saw Tim Wakefield’s daughter send a message on social media after the draft.

“(D’Angelo Ortiz), all I can say is congratulations,” Brianna Wakefield wrote on her Instagram story. “So proud of you and so lucky to have grown up with y’all in the family room. What a heartwarming, full circle moment.”

Brianna Wakefield’s Instagram story included pictures from the Red Sox family room with D’Angelo Ortiz and other children of former Boston players as well as a picture of them running around the diamond at Fenway Park.

It was a sweet and touching message for Boston fans to see between children of Red Sox legends. Since D’Angelo Ortiz was taken in the 19th round, it likely will take multiple years for him to make an impact in Boston’s farm system. But if he is able to step foot and play at Fenway Park, more emotions will flood in for fans.
