Red Sox’s Jarren Duran Downplays This Historic MLB Stat

Red Sox center fielder Jarren Duran became the first player in Major League Baseball history to record at least 10 triples, 20 home runs, 30 stolen bases and 40 doubles in a single season. The 27-year-old slugger downplayed the stat after Boston defeated the Toronto Blue Jays on Tuesday night at Fenway Park.

"It's pretty crazy, but it's just a stat," Duran told reporters, as seen on NESN's postgame coverage. "It doesn't really mean anything. It's going to be broken eventually. Guys like, (Bobby Witt Jr.) can do that in his sleep. It's a cool honor, but at the end of the day, it doesn't really do anything for the team unless I'm helping them win. But, it's a pretty awesome stat to have."

Duran went 2-for-4 from the dish with a leadoff home run to give the Red Sox an early 1-0 lead against the Blue Jays. It was the third consecutive game that Duran hit one out of the park after launching home runs in each game of the doubleheader on Monday. He also connected for two doubles in Boston's 7-3 loss in the second game of the day-night doubleheader.

The Corona, California native is slashing .293/.353/.523 this season with 42 doubles, 13 triples, 20 home runs and 32 stolen bases. He was selected to his first All-Star Game this season and was named MVP after hitting what turned out to be the game-winning homer for the American League.

Despite Duran's stellar campaign, the Red Sox are fighting for their playoff lives. They are 9 1/2 games behind the New York Yankees in the American League East and are four games back for the third wild card spot with 30 games remaining.
