The NBA world was saddened when Bill Walton died on May 27, and the franchise where the Boston Celtics legend started his career announced a fitting way to honor his legacy.
On Thursday, the Portland Trail Blazers revealed a unique tie-dye band that will go on the left side of their jerseys with the No. 32 in white. The Western Conference club also announced a special tribute night for their franchise legend.
"The organization will host a special Bill Walton Tribute Night on March 9 when the Detroit Pistons visit Moda Center," the Blazers said in a statement. "The night will feature special elements throughout to honor Walton and all his contributions to Rip City and the game of basketball. All fans in attendance are encouraged to wear tie-dye and will receive a special tie-dye headband so they can rock Bill's classic style. In-game tribute videos will be showcased along with more in-game and in-person activations, which will be announced at a later date."
Boston paid tribute to Walton a week after the two-time NBA champion died at 71 after a long battle with cancer. Before Game 1 of the NBA Finals, the Celtics wore special warm-up shirts with Walton's name written in tie-dye on the front. There also was a moment of silence with his widow Lori and their four sons in attendance.

The Celtics did not announce if there would be plans to honor Walton like the Trail Blazers will do this season, but his legacy as a basketball legend and person will continue to be remembered.
