Bill Belichick is a bit perplexed with Jerod Mayo and the New England Patriots four games into the regular season, and in more ways than one.

Belichick, the longtime Patriots head coach and current NFL analyst, joined the "Pat McAfee Show" on Monday and was asked about Mayo's plan for the quarterback position. Mayo on Monday reiterated Jacoby Brissett remains the starting quarterback while New England moves forward with its plan for rookie Drake Maye.

"I'll be honest with you, I have no idea what the plan is so I don't know, I can't comment on that," Belichick told McAfee, prompting both McAfee and co-host A.J. Hawk to smirk. "If Mayo says he's got a plan, then I guess he's got one. And we'll have to wait to see what it is. I don't know."

Belichick continued to offer an assessment of the Patriots after their 30-13 blowout loss to the San Francisco 49ers on Sunday.

"I would say there's a number of issues there," Belichick said. "One is, can't move the ball and can't score.

What do you think?  Leave a comment.

" ... And I don't know exactly what the numbers were, but the amount of time that (Brock) Purdy had to throw was pretty high. I got to think that in terms of the amount of time before the ball was released, had to be the highest in the league or close to it. I think there's some pass rush issues there, some scoring issues."

Belichick did credit New England for improving its kicking situation with Joey Slye, who converted a 63-yarder and 54-yarder at Levi's Stadium. Belichick expressed Slye was a better option than what the Patriots previously had in Chad Ryland, who Belichick drafted in the fourth round of the 2023 NFL Draft. Patriots fans might not be overly surprised to hear Belichick give flowers to special teams.

That was the only area, though.

"We'll see what the plan is," Belichick said. "I have no idea what it is."
