The Red Sox had a relatively quiet 2024 MLB Rule 5 draft Wednesday.

Of course, the biggest news for Boston was acquiring Garrett Crochet from the Chicago White Sox in exchange for four prospects. So it’s understandable that the Rule 5 draft didn’t get as much attention.

The Red Sox didn’t make any moves in the major league phase of the Rule 5 draft and selected four players in the minor league phase. Those players were pitchers Hobie Harris, Darvin Garcia, Manuel Medina and Jack Anderson.

Boston lost five players in the minor league phase and the most notable player it lost in the major league phase was pitcher Angel Bastardo, who was selected by the Toronto Blue Jays. Bastado was the 39th-ranked prospect on Sox Prospects and spent the 2024 season in Double-A Portland. He went 0-5 with the Sea Dogs and recorded a 5.36 ERA in 45 1/3 innings with 53 strikeouts.

The Red Sox will put their focus on the final day of MLB winter meetings and try to address the other top needs of the roster.
