The Red Sox filled an extremely important need by acquiring pitcher Garrett Crochet from the Chicago White Sox on Wednesday.
Chicago didn’t exactly get fleeced, though.
The White Sox are coming off the worst season in the history of Major League Baseball — which isn’t even close to an overstatement, as they literally lost more games last season (121) than any team ever.
How do you put out that dumpster fire? Obtain young, controllable talent.
White Sox general manager Chris Getz spoke with reporters after completing the deal and had great things to say about that talent — catcher Kyle Teel, outfielder Braden Montgomery, infielder Chase Meidroth and pitcher Wikelman Gonzalez.

“We were focused on bringing in as much high-end talent as we could, and we were able to accomplish that,” Getz said, per CHGO. “You’re not necessarily focused too much on proximity, but in this case, they happen to be upper-level players — with Braden just getting started out of college. We want to do what’s right by each player in regards to their development journey, but we feel like it’s a diversified group that is going to help our roster.”
” … Catching is gold right now in this game based on conversations we’ve had with other clubs, so to bring Kyle Teel into the organization — who played in Triple-A, has a left-handed bat, he’s an athlete — he’s played other positions, as well … Kyle Teel, Braden Montgomery, Chase Meidroth and Wikelman, not only are they talented, but they have high character. That’s the direction of this organization.”
Chicago has a long way to go, but they now have a few prospects who are expected to make an impact sooner rather than later.
