Jhostynxon “The Password” Garcia was a fun guy to have in the Boston Red Sox‘s system. Red Sox fans are sad to see Garcia go, although the franchise’s plethora of outfielders made moving The Password a wise decision. With Kristian Campbell set to become an outfielder moving forward, and with the Sox already crowded at the MLB level with four outfielders for three spots, it’s unclear when and where Garcia was going to fit in.
Pittsburgh Pirates fans should be excited about Garcia’s potential. The Athletic’s Ken Rosenthal certainly is. He discussed Garcia during a new episode of Foul Territory, indicating that this could be a really nice addition for Pittsburgh down the road.
“Garcia … is the kind of guy that (the Pirates) should be taking a chance on,” Rosenthal asserted. “There’s a little bit of volatility there, but he’s a good defender, a good baserunner, and if they can unlock him, if they can get him to kind of rein in his aggression, they might have something there.”
Garcia signed with the Red Sox as an international free agent in January 2019. After honing his skills in the lower minors, García erupted in 2024, slashing .286/ .356/ .536 across three levels with 20 home runs in 107 games, showing off his raw power and athleticism.

Protected on Boston’s 40-man roster in March 2025, he opened the year at Double-A Portland, batting .256/ .355/ .393 with three homers in 33 games. Promoted to Triple-A Worcester in May, he dominated with a .305/ .375/ .587 line, 18 homers, and a .962 OPS over 81 contests, leading Red Sox farmhands in power and earning Offensive Player of the Year. Selected for the All-Star Futures Game, Garcia impressed with his speed despite two strikeouts.
The Password’s major-league debut came August 22 against the New York Yankees, where he drew a walk in three at-bats. A week later, he notched his first hit (a double) against the Baltimore Orioles, finishing with a .143 average in seven plate appearances.
