A former New England Patriots stalwart suggested that fans should root against Drake Maye to win the 2025 NFL MVP award.

Maye is once again the MVP favorite after steering the Patriots to their 10th straight win on Monday night. David Andrews thinks the second-year quarterback deserves the honor, but the ex-center told CLNS Media’s Mike Kadlick and Taylor Kyles that he hopes Maye doesn’t get it.

“‘Is he the MVP? Yes,” Andrews said. “Do I want him to win it? No.”

Why does Andrews want his 2024 teammate to get snubbed? The Patriots won two of three Super Bowl appearances during his nine-year career. That one loss occurred after Tom Brady earned his third MVP award in 2017.

“I’ve been a part of one MVP season,” Andrews recalled. “It was the one season we didn’t win the Super Bowl.”

If the Patriots win the AFC, Andrews believes head coach Mike Vrabel could use an MVP slight to give the Patriots an “edge” if the NFL reveals a different winner days before the Super Bowl.

“Imagine this team. They do the unthinkable — I don’t think it’s that unthinkable, but they go to the Super Bowl,” Andrews considered. “They’re sitting in a hotel room Friday night, Thursday night. They wake up having breakfast that morning. Can you imagine if this kid doesn’t win the MVP?

“I don’t know if it’s gonna be brought up, but I think they’re gonna be p*ssed off. And I liked them p*ssed off.”
