The Boston Red Sox can’t go more than a few hours without being connected to one free agent in particular…

Pete Alonso might as well start packing his bags for Jersey Street.

The Athletic’s Jim Bowden urged the two sides to come to an agreement at the winter meetings. MLB.com’s Mark Feinsand listed the club among the three best fits for the veteran first baseman. The Boston Globe’s Peter Abraham reported that the player has expressed interest in the club to his inner circle.

MLB Network’s Jon Morosi became the latest to connect the two sides on Sunday.

“The team that is best positioned to sign Pete Alonso — not named the Mets — is the Boston Red Sox,” Morosi said during an appearance on MLB Network. “… I’ve just got visions of how many home runs Pete Alonso might hit playing at Fenway Park.”

Morosi went as far as saying there’s a better than 50/50 chance that he leaves New York.

Alonso slashed .272/.347/.524/ with 38 home runs and 126 runs batted in, while topping the National League with 41 doubles — tied with Atlanta Braves first baseman Matt Olson — in 2025.

The Red Sox being heavily tied to the five-time All-Star makes plenty of sense, as many believe he can be the man to fill that spot in the middle of the batting order left vacant with their trade of Rafael Devers and the uncertain future of Alex Bregman. It’s unlikely he would break the bank, too, as his market reportedly is much softer than initially anticipated.
