NFL fans don’t know yet if eight-time Pro Bowl quarterback Philip Rivers will be starting for the Indianapolis Colts in Week 15 against the Seattle Seahawks, less than one week after coming out of retirement.
After losing starter Daniel Jones to a torn Achilles in Week 14 and seeing backup Riley Leonard suffer a knee injury as well, the Colts brought Rivers in for a workout on Monday and signed him to their practice squad on Tuesday.
New England Patriots signal-caller Drake Maye talked about Rivers’ comeback on Wednesday. He discussed how the 17-year veteran helped him and a pair of other quarterbacks prepare for the 2024 NFL Draft 18 months ago in Mobile, Alabama.
Rivers — who played his final season with Indianapolis in 2020 — assisted Maye, Denver Broncos quarterback Bo Nix and Jacksonville Jaguars practice squad signal-caller Carter Bradley ahead of the draft.
“The biggest thing was he still throws it good,” Maye said, according to a report by Chad Graff and Nick Kosmider of The Athletic. “Shoot, that was two springs ago. He was slinging it good.”

Per Graff and Kosmider’s report, the trio of youngsters “connected with Rivers through QB Country, the training and development program for passers headquartered in Alabama, and have worked with Rivers’ son.”
Maye had high praise for the 44-year-old.
“He’s the ultimate competitor,” Maye said. “I’m sure he knows the offense well, and I’m sure he still slings it great. I saw some of his press conference; that was pretty funny. Great guy, and when I was around him, he was great to me. Pretty cool with something like that.”
