The New England Patriots can clinch a postseason berth in Week 16, and as the season ends their playoff roster is starting to take shape.

The Patriots waived linebacker Caleb Murphy on Monday. He was claimed by the New York Giants on Tuesday, according to NFL insider Ian Rapoport. The Giants had the No. 1 spot in the claiming order and waived kicker Younghoe Koo as the corresponding move.

Murphy was an undrafted free agent who signed with the Tennessee Titans out of Ferris State after the 2023 NFL Draft. The Titans released him in October last season, and he spent the rest of the season with the Los Angeles Chargers.

Murphy played in just five games over two seasons with the Titans before he was released. He was elevated from the Chargers’ practice squad for three games last season. This season, he played in six games for the Chargers before he was released on Oct. 18.

The Patriots claimed him on Oct. 20, and he played in five games for New England and recorded two tackles on special teams. He has played in a total of 19 games and has 19 total tackles. He has played 808 snaps on special teams in his career and 493 on defense.

Murphy was not a major part of the Patriots’ defense, but he was an experienced piece they could have called upon if injuries piled up. Ultimately, the Giants will have him to close out their season. The Giants have nothing to play for, but perhaps Murphy can show them something they can bank on for next season.

The 26-year-old is still trying to make a name for himself in the NFL and will now join his fourth organization in three years. He checks in at 6-foot-3, 254 pounds.
